Ice Fishing – Finland Winter 2010

I was invited to go ice fishing by a couple of locals. This entailed standing out on the frozen Baltic, drilling holes and cutting out blocks of ice to lay nets. For transport we had a 1970s Snowmobile that couldn’t cope with deep snow… Despite the biting wind and -15c temperature it was a lot of fun.

Take plenty of warm clothing if you’re planning to visit Finland in winter it can get as cold as minus 30C and that’s before the wind chill factor is taken into account – A tripod is also a good idea as the light levels are low when the sun isn’t shining and the cold will make you shake.
